Halogenated hydroxyfuranone

Definition:

A class of organic compounds, hydroxyfuranones, where one or more hydrogen atoms attached to carbon atoms have been replaced by halogens (chlorine, bromine, fluorine, and/or iodine). Examples include brominated hydroxyfuranone, chlorinated hydroxyfuranone and MX (3-Chloro-4-(dichloromethyl)-5-hydroxy-2(5H)-furanone)which are water disinfectant by-product.
