The population or [total mass] of a fishery resource. Such stocks are usually identified by their location. They can be, but are not always, genetically discrete from other stocks.
The term fish stock usually refers to a particular fish population that is more or less isolated from other stocks of the same species. In a particular fishery, the fish stock may be one or several species.
