Feedstock refers to the raw material that is required for some industrial process.

In the context of biofuels, a feedstock is any biomass destined for conversion to energy or biofuel. For example, corn is a feedstock for ethanol production and soybean oil is a feedstock for biodiesel.

Cellulosic biomass [such as straw or wood] has the potential to become a significant feedstock source for [second-generation] biofuels.
